What You'll Find
Castlerock Beach is a beautiful spot along the North Coast, with a huge stretch of golden sand that's perfect for a family beach day!
There's plenty of room for the wee ones to dig, build sandcastles, paddle in the shallows and run along the shoreline. It's one of those beaches where you can happily spend hours with a bucket and spade!
The beach stretches towards the mouth of the River Bann at one end, with beautiful views along the coast towards Mussenden Temple and Downhill at the other.
The sand dunes behind the beach make a lovely backdrop, and there's plenty to discover along the shore. Keep an eye out for shells, interesting pebbles and little seaside treasures as you wander.
And something I love about Castlerock is how close the village is! You can enjoy your time on the beach before heading into the village for a coffee, ice cream or something to eat.
If you fancy exploring a little further, Downhill Demesne and Mussenden Temple are nearby and well worth adding to your day. The views from the clifftop are beautiful, and it's a lovely extra if the kids still have energy after the beach.
Whether you're planning a summer beach day or just fancy a coastal walk with the kids, Castlerock is a lovely spot to keep on your list!

Before You Visit
Check the tide times before heading down, especially if you're planning a longer walk along the beach.
The North Coast can be breezy, even on sunny days, so it's worth bringing an extra layer for the kids.
Bring towels and spare clothes if your wee ones love paddling. Somehow they always end up wetter than planned!
Stick to established access paths through the dunes to help protect the fragile plants and wildlife.
Always check sea conditions and any local safety notices before allowing children into the water.
