What You'll Find
Crom Estate is one of those beautiful places in Fermanagh where you could easily spend hours exploring with the kids!
Set along the shores of Upper Lough Erne, this National Trust estate is full of woodland walks, wildlife, old castle ruins and little places to discover along the way.
One of the highlights is the Old Castle ruins, sitting right beside the water. The kids will love having a look around the remains of the old castle, and it's a lovely spot to stop and take in the views across the lough.
And don't miss the famous ancient yew trees!
Crom is home to some of the oldest yew trees in Ireland, with the trees thought to be hundreds of years old. Their huge twisting trunks and branches are fascinating to see, especially for little adventurers who love exploring nature.
There are beautiful woodland trails throughout the estate, taking you past old stone buildings, along the water and through peaceful forest paths. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, deer and plenty of birds along the way!
The estate is also known for its wildlife, with Upper Lough Erne being a brilliant place for birdwatching. If you've got binoculars at home, this is definitely somewhere worth bringing them.
There's plenty of space for a picnic too, with lovely views across the water and lots of little spots to stop for a snack.
You can choose a shorter walk with younger children or explore further if everyone is up for it. It's the sort of place where you don't need a big plan. Just follow the paths and see what you discover!
If you're exploring Fermanagh with the family, Crom Estate is definitely one to add to your list, especially if your wee ones enjoy woodland walks, castles and spotting wildlife.

Before You Visit
Crom is a large estate, so it's worth choosing a walking route that suits your children's ages rather than trying to explore everything in one visit.
Some paths are uneven or muddy, especially after rain, so bring suitable shoes. If you're visiting with a buggy, check which routes are most accessible.
The Old Castle ruins and waterside areas are lovely to explore, but keep younger children close around the ruins and near the water.
Bring drinks and snacks if you're planning a longer walk, as you could be exploring for quite a while.
Wildlife sightings aren't guaranteed, but quieter walks can give you a better chance of spotting something.
