Playpark
Full Description
Eglinton's play park is the sort of facility that makes you realise how much thought can go into a village play area. It reopened in June 2022 after a £300,000-plus upgrade, and the result is a park that genuinely works for a family with children of different ages and abilities.
The main event is a big wheelchair-accessible multi-unit with different levels, towers, sensory panels, slides and climbing nets, sitting beside a ground-flush roundabout and a ground-flush trampoline that a child can roll or step straight onto. There are swings for different ages and abilities, including a pendulum swing and a zip line, and a separate toddler area with its own mini multi-unit, toddler swings and springers so the smallest ones aren't lost in the middle of the bigger children.
There's planting, seating and picnic benches around the edges too, which matters more than it sounds: it gives you somewhere to sit that isn't a wall, and it gives the park a quieter corner for anyone who needs one.

Wee Ones Will Love...
- ✓The zip line — always the first thing they run for
- ✓The pendulum swing, which is different from an ordinary swing and worth the queue
- ✓The ground-flush trampoline, easy to get onto even for little legs
- ✓Having their own toddler area with a mini multi-unit, swings and springers
Before You Visit
The play park is in the centre of Eglinton village, just off the Main Street.
It was fully rebuilt and reopened in June 2022 with accessible equipment throughout, including a ground-flush roundabout, a ground-flush trampoline and swings for different abilities, so it's a good option if you're visiting with a wheelchair user or a child who finds steps difficult.
There are no toilets or café in the play park itself, so plan a pit stop in the village.
Parking is on the street and in the village car parks, a short walk from the play area.
As with any council play park, the equipment is inspected and maintained but can be busy after school and at weekends — a morning visit is calmer.
Top Tips
- ⭐Go mid-morning if you can; it fills up after school
- ⭐The zip line and pendulum swing are the two most popular pieces, so start there
- ⭐Bring a picnic — the benches and planting make it easy to stay a while
- ⭐If you're visiting with a wheelchair user, come for the ground-flush roundabout and trampoline specifically; they're the stand-out inclusive pieces
