Hazelbank Park is a lovely spot for some fresh air beside Belfast Lough. With open lawns, trees and waterside views, it's a great place for children to run about while the grown-ups enjoy looking out across the water.

There's plenty of room for a picnic or a game, and the paths are nice for a family stroll. Children can watch the ships and boats on the lough, look for birds or simply enjoy exploring the green spaces. It's especially lovely if you want a relaxed outing rather than a busy attraction, and the seafront setting makes it feel a little different from your usual park.

Bring a ball, a picnic blanket and an extra layer for the breeze. It's an easy way to enjoy a little outdoor adventure close to Newtownabbey. The play park was officially reopened in June 2026 after a major upgrade delivered through the council's £2 million programme for play parks across the borough, and it now includes a sensory garden alongside the play equipment. Hazelbank sits beside the Coronation Garden.
