What You'll Find
If you're exploring Portaferry with the kids, Hilltop Playpark is a lovely wee spot to stop for some free playground fun!
Tucked away in the parkland just above the town centre, this colourful playground has a great mixture of equipment for younger children and bigger wee adventurers to enjoy.
One of the main attractions is the wooden pirate-style play ship, complete with a porthole window, climbing features and a slide. Perfect for little imaginations to take over as they set sail on their own pirate adventure!
There's also a set of swings, a roundabout for spinning around and a fun little red mushroom-shaped seat that's just the right size for toddlers.
And it's not all about climbing and sliding!
You'll also find some lovely interactive features, including a play console and a butterfly life-cycle panel where the kids can discover how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
The playground has bright, colourful rubber surfacing, with benches around the edge for the grown-ups to sit while the kids play.
Beyond the play area, there's open grass, mature trees and paths winding through the surrounding park, giving you a little extra space to explore.
It's a lovely local playground rather than a huge destination park, but it's a brilliant free addition to a family day out around Portaferry.

Before You Visit
Hilltop Playpark is located in the parkland above Portaferry town centre, just a short walk from Church Street.
The playground is set on colourful soft rubber surfacing, with tarmac paths through the surrounding park.
If your sat nav directs you towards Church Street, the playground itself is around a two-minute walk away, so don't worry if you can't immediately see it from the road.
Toilet, baby-changing and dedicated parking facilities haven't been confirmed at the playground, so it's worth planning around the town centre if needed.
