Full Description

Moorfields Play Park is tucked inside McNeill Park in the Moorfields area of Ballymena, and it was given a complete overhaul before reopening early in 2026. It is a neighbourhood park in the truest sense: small, free, and quietly busy with local families rather than full of visitors who have driven across the county.

The refurbishment was a proper one. New equipment has gone in, including swings, spring riders and a Jigsaw Towers play unit, with a wheelchair-inclusive roundabout as the standout piece. That roundabout deserves a special mention for families who have waited a long time for it: it is designed so children can play side by side rather than taking turns, which is exactly the sort of kit that makes a small park work for a whole family instead of part of one. New safety surfacing went down underneath, seating was added for grown-ups, and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council describes the park as a space for children of all ages and abilities.

In practice, that mix means siblings of different ages can be happy at the same time — older ones on the towers and swings, smaller ones on the spring riders — while you sit rather than circle the equipment, which is not something every play park manages.

It is part of the same round of investment that refurbished Greenisland Play Park and Beachlands in Carnlough, so this corner of Ballymena has had real attention rather than a lick of paint. There is no booking, no entry fee and no need to plan ahead: it is a place to stop into for forty minutes on a Saturday morning.

A word of realism. McNeill Park is a residential setting, and we have not confirmed parking, toilets or baby changing at the site. Treat it as a local park rather than a destination, and pair it with something else in Ballymena if you are travelling in — the town's People's Park has its own play area, a skate park and an outdoor gym, and we have the details in our directory.

Before You Visit

Moorfields Play Park is inside McNeill Park in the Moorfields area of Ballymena (postcode BT42 3ED), and it is free, council-maintained and needs no booking. The park was refurbished at the start of 2026, so the equipment and safety surfacing are new.

Toilets, baby changing, parking and refreshments at the site have not been confirmed, so please check locally if your visit depends on them. McNeill Park is a residential setting: if you are driving, take a moment to find a sensible place to leave the car and keep residents' access clear.

As at any play park, keep an eye on toddlers and younger children around the equipment, and check the council's play pages if you are travelling any distance in case of temporary closures.

Top Tips

  • ⭐It is a neighbourhood park rather than a destination, so tie it in with the rest of Ballymena rather than travelling just for this — People's Park has its own play area, a skate park and an outdoor gym, and we have the details in our directory.
  • ⭐Check parking before you go: McNeill Park sits in a residential street, so plan where you will leave the car.
  • ⭐The equipment is brand new following the early 2026 refurbishment, so everything should be in excellent condition — the inclusive roundabout alone is worth the trip.
  • ⭐If you have a mix of ages, the Jigsaw Towers unit and the spring riders mean little ones and older children can potter on separate things at the same time.
  • ⭐The park is close to the local primary school, so after school and Saturday mornings are the busy spells if you have a toddler who prefers a quieter play.
