Full Description
Windmill Wood is a small, mature woodland just outside Dungannon town centre, and it's a good short walk when you want something gentle that still feels like an outing. There's a duck pond near the entrance and a reconstructed windmill tower in the middle of the wood, which gives children something to walk towards.
What You'll Find
A network of paths through mature woodland, with some magnificent trees on show. The route is about 1.1 miles and circular.
Starting from the car park on the Killyman Road, you enter through the green gate and pass a small duck pond, with Royal School Dungannon on your right. The path then emerges onto open green space before heading back into the wood and on to the reconstructed windmill tower at its centre.
Paths are tarmac, though steep in places.

Before You Visit
The car park is on the right hand side of the Killyman Road, about 500m from the junction of the Killyman Road and the A29 at Northland Row.
It's free to visit and open to the public, and the walk is graded easy, though the tarmac paths are steep in places.
There are no toilets or café facilities in the wood.
Dogs should be kept under control.
A walking group meets at the car park on Saturday mornings, so it can be busier then.
Top Tips
- ⭐It's a good 1.1 mile loop for children who are just getting used to walking
- ⭐Make the windmill tower the halfway reward with a snack
- ⭐Pair it with Dungannon Park if you want a longer afternoon out
- ⭐Steep tarmac sections can be slippery when wet, so grip matters
