What You'll Find
Dublin Zoo is a classic family day out that gets the balance right: animal exhibits to see up close and wide-open spaces for the children to roam safely. It's set across 28 hectares within Phoenix Park, with habitats ranging from African savanna to Asian forests and South American rainforest, so there's plenty to discover together.
Keeper talks run throughout the day and are a lovely way to add context to what you're seeing, while family trails and dedicated play areas are dotted around the site. The play areas are a lifesaver when the children need to burn off some energy, and they help break up the walking for younger visitors. Between the animals, the trails and the play stops, it comfortably fills a full day.
There are lots of food stops, picnic areas and toilets spread around too, which makes a big difference with tired children as you're not trekking back to one main building. The zoo doesn't have its own car park, but nearby Phoenix Park parking is available, including Lord's Walk. The site is large, so a buggy for younger children is worth bringing.
