Cushendun Beach is one of those beautiful little spots along the Antrim Coast that's well worth stopping for, especially if you're exploring the Glens of Antrim with the kids!

Tucked beside the picturesque village of Cushendun, this lovely sandy beach is surrounded by green hills, with beautiful views across the water.

It's a great place for a relaxed family beach day, whether the wee ones fancy building sandcastles, digging holes, collecting shells or simply having a paddle when the sea is calm and conditions are safe.

There's plenty of space for a little wander along the shore too, and the scenery really is beautiful!

But one of the best things about visiting Cushendun is that there's more to explore just a short walk from the beach.

These fascinating coastal caves have become a popular attraction, especially for Game of Thrones fans, as they were used as a filming location in the series.

The caves are tucked into the rocky coastline, and older children will love having a look around and exploring the unusual rock formations. Just take care on the uneven and slippery ground, particularly with younger children.

And make sure to have a little wander around Cushendun village itself.

It's one of the prettiest villages along the Antrim Coast, with charming whitewashed cottages, a lovely little harbour and places to stop for a coffee or something to eat.

You could easily spend a lovely morning or afternoon here, enjoying the beach, exploring the caves and finishing off with a little treat in the village.

Before You Visit

Check the tide times before heading to the beach, especially if you're planning to explore the shoreline or visit the caves.

The caves have uneven rocky ground which can be slippery, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. They're not suitable for buggies, and younger children will need close supervision.

The beach can be breezy even on warmer days, so bring an extra layer and a change of clothes if the kids are likely to paddle.

Public toilets at the beach car park are generally open seasonally from April to September, so bear that in mind if you're visiting outside these months.

Keep little ones close around the sea, caves and rocky shoreline.
