Full Description
Ness Country Park is a lovely choice when you fancy a proper woodland adventure. The paths take you through trees and along the river, with bridges, rushing water and waterfalls making the walk feel much more exciting for children. It is a place to take your time, stopping to listen to the water and see what you can spot along the way. For families who enjoy forest walks, it is a beautiful change from the usual playground outing.
The waterfall is the big attraction, and the sound of the water makes the walk feel like a proper adventure. The riverside paths, bridges and wooded slopes are beautiful, but the route towards the waterfall has steep sections and steps, so it is not one to describe as buggy-friendly. With younger children, it is worth deciding in advance how far you want to walk rather than feeling you need to complete the whole route. The scenery is lovely in every season, especially when the woodland changes colour.
What You'll Find
Explore woodland and riverside trails through the country park and look out for waterfalls and wildlife along the way. Routes vary, so families can choose a walk that suits their children rather than trying to cover everything.

Before You Visit
Check current path conditions before travelling. The waterfall route has steep sections and steps and is not buggy-friendly.
Burntollet Wood sits next to the park and is reached on foot from the Ervey car park at the end of the red waymarked loop. The Woodland Trust has planted over 43,000 native trees there, mostly oak, and in summer the young wood is full of wildflowers.

- ⭐Wear sturdy shoes; the paths can be slippery and uneven.
- ⭐The waterfall route includes steep sections and steps, so leave the buggy behind for that walk.
