Full Description
Tollymore Forest Park is a magical place for a family adventure at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. There are beautiful woodland walks, bridges, rivers and little waterfalls to discover, and the scenery is lovely at any time of year.
The Shimna River winds through the forest, and crossing the old stone bridges is a highlight for little explorers. Look out for the stepping stones, rocky riverbanks and unusual trees as you follow the paths. There are several routes to choose from, so you can keep things short with younger children or enjoy a longer walk if everyone has the energy.
The main river trail has rough ground and steps in places, so it's not a good route to promise as buggy-friendly. There are easier paths elsewhere in the park, but it's worth choosing your route before you set off. Bring a picnic and make time to stop and enjoy the forest rather than rushing through it.
What You'll Find
Explore woodland trails beside the Shimna River, cross stone bridges and discover different corners of the forest. Routes vary in length, so families can choose something manageable or make a much bigger day of it.
