Full Description
Greenisland Play Park is the village's own park, and it reopened at the end of March 2026 after a major refurbishment that rebuilt it as an inclusive, modern play space. It sits off Knockleigh Drive in the heart of Greenisland, which is what makes it work: this is a park you walk to from home, not one you build a day out around.
The new equipment is a proper upgrade rather than a paint job. Slide towers, a merry-go-round, a hammock and a climbing net have all gone in, with fresh safety surfacing underneath and seating added for the grown-ups. Accessibility has been improved as part of the redesign too, and the council's aim was clear — a play park for children of all ages and abilities, which is a genuine step forward for a village park rather than a headline about equipment counts.
That word, inclusive, is doing real work here. It means children who use a wheelchair, or who find busy playgrounds overwhelming, have been thought about in the design rather than added on afterwards. Families who have spent years driving to bigger parks to find suitable play will recognise why that matters.
It arrived through Mid and East Antrim Borough Council's play park development programme for 2025-26, alongside Moorfields in Ballymena and Beachlands in Carnlough, so Greenisland's turn came as part of a wider push on play in the borough. It was a genuinely local project too: Greenisland Community Council was involved from the start, and children from Greenisland Primary School were there for the reopening.
Because it is a village park, half an hour to an hour is the natural shape of a visit — enough for a proper run-around after school or on a bright Saturday, without needing to load the car. If you want more from the day, the Knockleigh Drive MUGA and the outdoor gym at Greenisland Playing Fields are both within a few minutes' walk for older children, and Carrickfergus's shoreline and the Marine Gardens play park are a short drive away.
We have kept the unknowns visible: toilets, baby changing, café facilities and parking at the site are not confirmed, and the park is in a residential area, so if you drive, leave the car considerately.

Top Tips
- ⭐Much of Greenisland is within walking distance, so walking over solves the parking question entirely — parking at the site is not confirmed.
- ⭐Pair it with the shoreline: Marine Gardens and its play park in Carrickfergus are only a few minutes away by car, and we have a full listing for it.
- ⭐Older children can carry on to the Knockleigh Drive MUGA or the outdoor gym at Greenisland Playing Fields, both a few minutes' walk away.
- ⭐Because everything is brand new, it is worth a proper visit rather than a quick five minutes — bring a ball for the walk over.
- ⭐If you want to see what else is on offer nearby, the council's play park pages cover the whole Mid and East Antrim area in one place.
