What You'll Find
Orlock Point is a National Trust coastal walk on the North Down coast, and it's a beauty. From a small layby car park on Warren Road, the path slips through a stile and drops past a sheltered stony bay before climbing steps onto open headland.
From there it follows the old Orlock Coach Road along the coast to Sandeel Bay, with the Copeland Islands offshore and, on a clear day, the Scottish coast hazy in the distance. Along the way you pass an archway hewn out of the rock by hand, with the chisel marks still visible, and a Second World War lookout hut that makes a fine spot for watching boats.

- ✓The hand-cut archway in the rock, with the chisel marks still there
- ✓The old lookout hut, which is brilliant for boat-spotting
- ✓Shingle coves and rocky outcrops to explore along the way
Before You Visit
This is a real walk rather than a stroll: about three miles in total, taking one to two hours. The National Trust rates it challenging, with rocky, uneven ground and some steep steps.
That makes it a poor fit for buggies and for very small legs, and sturdy footwear matters. The car park is a layby with room for around ten cars, and there are no shops on site, so come prepared and top up in Donaghadee or Groomsport.
⭐ Wee Adventurers Top Tips
- ⭐Allow one to two hours and set off with that in mind
- ⭐Sturdy footwear is essential for the steps and rocky sections
- ⭐Nothing is sold on site, so bring water and snacks with you
