Discover the story of Saint Patrick at this interactive visitor centre in the heart of Downpatrick. Families can explore his life through film, displays and multimedia, with an immersive exhibition and IMAX experience bringing the story of Ireland’s patron saint to life.
Wee Ones Will Love...
The big-screen IMAX experience and colourful multimedia displays help bring the story to life, while older children can follow Patrick’s adventures and discover what life was like in Ireland hundreds of years ago. The centre also runs educational activities including drama, Celtic crafts and Viking-themed learning experiences for organised groups.
Before You Visit
The centre is currently open daily, but always check the official website for current opening hours, admission prices and availability before travelling. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. The centre is wheelchair accessible and has adapted toilets, a café and an enclosed garden area. Last admission to the exhibition may be earlier than the building’s closing time.
Top Tips
Allow around an hour for the main exhibition, although families can take things at their own pace. It works particularly well as part of a Downpatrick day out and can be combined with Down County Museum or Downpatrick & County Down Railway. Children under six currently receive free exhibition admission. The café is handy for lunch or a break before exploring more of the town.
