What You'll Find
Bangor Sportsplex has had a brand new playground, and it's definitely one to add to your list if you're looking for somewhere different to take the kids around Bangor!
The play park reopened in September 2026 after a £170,000 makeover, and I love that local primary school children were involved in helping design it.
There's a lovely mix of new equipment, including swings, slides and climbing features, so plenty for the kids to have a go at.
You'll find the playground at Bangor Sportsplex on the Old Belfast Road, beside the football pitches and athletics track. It's quite an open space, and depending on what's happening, the kids might enjoy watching some of the sports going on nearby too.
There's parking on site and it's completely free, which is always a bonus!
It's probably more somewhere you'd pop to for an hour or so rather than spend the whole day, as there aren't any cafés or public toilets at the playground.
But if you're in Bangor or fancy trying out a new play park, this is a handy one to know about. You could always combine it with Ward Park or a trip to Bangor seafront afterwards.

Before You Visit
There's no café or public toilets at the playground, so it's worth making a toilet stop before you arrive.
The playground is quite open, with not much shelter, so bring a coat if it's a breezy day.
It's within the Sportsplex grounds, so keep an eye on little ones around the car park and sports facilities.
⭐ Wee Adventurers Top Tips
- ⭐The playground only reopened in September 2026, so don't be surprised if older photos online look completely different!
- ⭐I'd plan this as a playground stop rather than a full day out.
- ⭐There's parking on site, so you don't have to worry about finding somewhere in Bangor town centre.
- ⭐If the kids still have energy afterwards, Ward Park is another option for a play.
