What You'll Find
If you're looking for a beach day with a playground thrown in, Cranfield West Beach is a brilliant little spot to add to your list!
Located just outside Kilkeel, right on the shores of Carlingford Lough, this lovely sandy beach has a play park sitting right beside it. And with the Mourne Mountains in the background, the views are beautiful!
The playground is particularly good for younger children, with slides, climbing equipment and colourful soft surfacing underfoot.
And one of the best things about this playground is its location. You're literally just a few steps from the sand!
The kids can enjoy the playground before heading down to the beach to build sandcastles, dig holes, collect shells and paddle along the shoreline when conditions are safe.
There's plenty of space for a run around too, so don't forget the buckets, spades and a ball!
The beach itself is lovely for a little wander, with views stretching across Carlingford Lough. It's a beautiful spot to sit with a coffee or enjoy a picnic while the wee ones play.
And it's a handy one for families too, with parking, toilets and baby-changing facilities nearby, making it easier to spend a few hours here without having to pack up and head elsewhere.
If you're exploring around the Mournes, Kilkeel is only a short drive away, so you could easily combine your beach visit with a stop in town for lunch or a little treat.
A lovely free spot for a sunny afternoon, especially if your kids love a bit of playground time followed by a trip to the beach!

Before You Visit
The playground has soft surfacing, which is handy for younger children and buggies, but getting across the sand itself can be trickier with a pushchair.
The beach is quite exposed, so bring an extra layer even on warmer days. It can get breezy beside the lough!
Keep a close eye on little ones near the shoreline, particularly if they're moving between the playground and the beach.
If you're planning to paddle, check the tide and water conditions first. The beach may not have lifeguard cover.
Bring a towel and a change of clothes for the kids. Even if you're only planning a playground visit, the sand and water might be too tempting!
